The Old Man and the Sea is a short novel written by the American author Ernest Hemingway in Cuba in 1951 and published in 1952. It was the last major work of fiction by Hemingway to be published during his lifetime. The story narrates the struggle of an old fisherman, Santiago, with a huge marlin in the Gulf currents off the coast of Cuba.
