«The Unquiet Grave» is a collection of five horror stories by M. R. James, published by Oxford University Press in 2000 in paperback (96 pages, in English).
The book brings together five ghost stories set in lonely locations: a locked room in an inn, a whistle hidden in a church, or a mysterious message that must not be returned. The warnings that open the stories anticipate supernatural encounters and characters who wake the dead; the reading moves between suspense and classic horror.
It is part of the Oxford Bookworms Library series, level 4, with a controlled vocabulary of 1400 words. Edition adapted for students of English as a foreign language.
Recommended for intermediate-level English students and for young or adult readers who want to practice the language with classic scary stories; reading is recommended from age 16.

Montague Rhodes James was an English medievalist scholar and author who served as provost of King's College, Cambridge (1905–1918), and of Eton College (1918–1936) as well as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge (1913–1915). James's scholarly work is still highly regarded, but he is best remembered for his ghost stories, which are considered by many critics and authors as the finest in the English language and widely influential on modern horror.
