«Tiempo de silencio» is the Spanish novel by Luis Martín-Santos, published by Seix Barral in paperback (288 pages, in Spanish).
Pedro, a young doctor eking out a living in a Madrid boarding house, needs special mice for his laboratory; a man from the slums gets them for him. That deal drags him into the city's lowest depths, where an absurd accident triggers consequences that mark him. The work combines irony, social criticism, and linguistic renewal.
It belongs to Seix Barral's Biblioteca Breve collection; this definitive edition restores the passages that Francoist censorship forced to be suppressed in the first edition.
A fundamental work of twentieth-century Spanish literature, for readers of contemporary classics and socially engaged narrative.
