«Tocaia Grande» is the novel by Jorge Amado, published by El Aleph Editores in paperback (544 pages, in Spanish).
The novel deals with the formation of a settlement in northeastern Brazil at the beginning of the 20th century, born amid violence and the struggle for land. After an ambush, a former jagunço receives some land and plants cacao; with him settle merchants, prostitutes, drovers and former slaves. The friendship among these neighbors makes the place grow and resist the power of the Church and the colonels.
The Spanish translation was published in 2001 in the Modernos y Clásicos collection; the original work appeared in Portuguese in 1984.
The work is aimed at the general public, especially readers interested in Brazilian literature and community stories.
