«Trópico de Cáncer» is Henry Miller's autobiographical novel, published by Editorial Planeta in paperback (287 pages, in Spanish).
The novel reconstructs Henry Miller's stay in 1930s Paris and his bohemian life alongside other artists. Through a direct, fragmentary monologue, it combines sexual experiences and everyday scenes with mordant reflections on society and art, renewing the narrative of its time.
First installment of the Tropic series. 1985 edition in the BestSellers Planeta collection; translation by Carlos Manzano. Original work published in English in 1934.
For readers of autobiographical narrative and twentieth-century classics; the book addresses sexuality explicitly and was censored in its time.

Henry Valentine Miller was an American novelist, short story writer and essayist. He broke with existing literary forms and developed a new type of semi-autobiographical novel that blends character study, social criticism, philosophical reflection, stream of consciousness, explicit language, sex, surrealist free association, and mysticism. His most characteristic works of this kind are Tropic of Cancer, Black Spring, Tropic of Capricorn, and the trilogy The Rosy Crucifixion, which are based on his experiences in New York City and Paris, and all of which were banned in the United States until 1961. He also wrote travel memoirs and literary criticism and painted watercolors.
