«Un año de escuela en Trieste» is the novel by Giani Stuparich, published by Minúscula in paperback (94 pages, in Spanish).
Edda Marty, tired of the bourgeois conventions of Trieste at the beginning of the twentieth century, decides to take her final year of high school at a boys' institute in order to gain access to university. Her presence, without meaning to stand out, unsettles her classmates and leads them to discover a seriousness of life that the classroom had not shown them.
It belongs to the Paisajes narrados collection (no. 43), with a translation from the Italian by Francesc Miravitlles Salvador and original title Un anno di scuola.
A read for those who enjoy classic European fiction and coming-of-age stories set amid the social change of the early twentieth century.
