«Un candide en Terre sainte» is the travelogue by Régis Debray, published by Gallimard in 2008 in paperback (453 pages, in French).
Starting from the Gospels, Debray follows Jesus's itinerary through the present-day Near East: Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Gaza, Lebanon, Egypt and Syria. He observes how Jews, Christians and Muslims live with their faith today and turns the journey into a chronicle, testimony and meditation on religion and politics.
Work from Gallimard's Blanche collection; its first edition appeared on February 7, 2008.
A work for believers and agnostics, interested in the Near East and in travel as meditation.

Jules Régis Debray is a French philosopher, journalist, former government official and academic. He is known for his theorization of mediology, a critical theory of the long-term transmission of cultural meaning in human society, and for associating with Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara in Bolivia in 1967 and advancing Salvador Allende's presidency in Chile in the early 1970s. He returned to France in 1973 and later held various official posts in the French government.
