«Una mujer en Birkenau» is the testimony of Seweryna Szmaglewska, published by Alba Editorial in paperback (408 pages, in Spanish).
Seweryna Szmaglewska recounts her deportation to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1942 and her captivity until the evacuation of 1945, when she managed to escape. She combines impersonal narration and appeals to the reader to portray the life of the prisoners. It was the first testimony of a survivor of a Nazi camp and was admitted as evidence at Nuremberg.
It belongs to the Trayectos Supervivencias collection (number 83). Translated from Polish by Katarzyna Olszewska and Sergio Trigán; original title: Dymy nad Birkenau.
Recommended for readers interested in Holocaust testimonies and the historical memory of World War II.
