In West Germany in the sixties, Harting, an assistant at the British embassy in Bonn, disappears with forty-three confidential documents. Security agent Alan Turner travels from London to find him while radical students and neo-Nazis demonstrate and negotiations in Brussels worsen the crisis. The investigation reveals the tension between the German past and present.
Novel originally published in 1968, here in a translation by Carlos Casas, in the Biblioteca John le Carré collection.
Readers of spy novels and political thrillers, especially those looking for stories set in Cold War Germany.

David John Moore Cornwell, known by his pen name John le Carré, was an English author. Many of his espionage novels have been adapted for film or television. He has been described as a "sophisticated, morally ambiguous writer", and is considered one of the greatest novelists of the postwar era. During the 1950s and 1960s, he worked for both the Security Service (MI5) and the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). Near the end of his life, le Carré became an Irish citizen.
