«Una ventana al norte» is the adventure novel by Álvaro Pombo, published by Editorial Anagrama in hardcover (320 pages, in Spanish).
Isabel de la Hoz, a young bourgeois and fanciful woman from Santander, ends up in Mexico during the Cristero Wars. The novel contrasts emotional and institutional religiosity, and turns the phrase «una ventana al norte» into a symbol of illusion and lack of sanity. Pombo narrates the search for reality from a taste for unreality, in an adventure between a misty beach and a reality more fantastic than imagination.
It is number 359 in Anagrama's Narrativas hispánicas collection, published in April 2004; the work received the Premio Arcebispo Juan de San Clemente in 2006.
For readers of contemporary fiction and Spanish narrative, with an interest in historical background and female characters.
Álvaro Pombo García de los Ríos is a Spanish poet, novelist and activist.
