«Vanessa Vai à Luta» is the play by Luísa Costa Gomes, published by Porto Editora in paperback (124 pages, in Portuguese).
Vanessa's mother keeps telling her she should want "girl things" and that, if she doesn't, boys won't want to be with her; Vanessa is not willing to accept that. The play, written in a youthful, contemporary language, exposes the pressure of gender roles, the construction of identity and the need for self-acceptance.
