Synopsis of Veinte años y un día
En 'Veinte años y un día', Jorge Semprún nos sumerge en una España de posguerra, donde los secretos familiares y las tensiones políticas se entrelazan en un relato absorbente. La novela se desarrolla en Quismondo, Toledo, en 1956, donde la familia Avendaño celebra una ceremonia expiatoria que conmemora la ejecución de su hermano menor durante la guerra civil. La llegada de un hispanista norteamericano y un comisario de la Brigada Político Social desata una serie de investigaciones que revelan oscuras relaciones eróticas y secretos ocultos en el ambiente opresivo de la posguerra. Semprún construye una narrativa fragmentada y compleja, donde las versiones de los personajes se superponen para reconstruir los hechos fatídicos que dieron origen a la ceremonia, ofreciendo una visión crítica y profunda de la sociedad española de la época.

Jorge Semprún
Jorge Semprún Maura was a Spanish writer and politician who lived in France most of his life and wrote primarily in French. From 1953 to 1962, during the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, Semprún lived clandestinely in Spain working as an organizer for the exiled Communist Party of Spain, but was expelled from the party in 1964. After the death of Franco and the change to a democratic government, he served as Minister of Culture in Spain's socialist government from 1988 to 1991.
