«Vendredi ou la vie sauvage» is the young-adult adaptation of Michel Tournier's adventure novel, published by Editions Gallimard in the Folio Junior collection in paperback (160 pages, in French).
Drawing on the myth of Robinson Crusoe, Tournier recounts Robinson's 28 years on a desert island and his decision not to return to civilization. Living with Friday, the young man whose life he saves, transforms his view of the world: the relationship between the two and Friday's perspective on the order imposed by Robinson ultimately call into question society, property and the meaning of nature.
Work originally published in France in 1977 and reissued in the Folio Junior collection. Paperback edition of 160 pages; the cover and interior illustrations are by Georges Lemoine, credited as illustrator in bibliographic records.
Recommended for young readers and for those approaching Michel Tournier's work for the first time, as well as for students of French literature.
