«Verbal Hygiene» is the linguistics essay by Deborah Cameron, published by Routledge in hardcover (284 pages, in English).
Deborah Cameron examines popular attitudes towards language and the practices for regulating its use: school grammar, politically correct language, and communication advice for women. Cameron argues that 'verbal hygiene' gives meaning to linguistic phenomena and is a symbolic attempt to impose order on the social world.
