«Vida de Rancé» is the biography written by François-René de Chateaubriand, published by Planeta in paperback (158 pages, in Spanish).
In this work, Chateaubriand evokes the life of Armand-Jean le Bouthillier de Rancé, a seventeenth-century figure, without confining himself to an erudite biography. Written in his old age, the narrative attends above all to the suggestiveness of language and moves freely, with its gaze fixed on dreams and on heaven.
Edition with introduction, translation and notes by Carlos Pujol; Clásicos Universales Planeta collection, no. 23. The work was originally published in French in 1844 as «La Vie de Rancé».
Suitable for those interested in nineteenth-century French literature and in biographies of historical figures.

François-René, vicomte de Chateaubriand was a French writer, politician, diplomat and historian who influenced French literature of the 19th century. Descended from an old aristocratic family from Brittany, Chateaubriand was a royalist by political disposition. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1822 to 1824 and as the French ambassador to Sweden, Prussia, the United Kingdom, and the Papal States.
