«Viento del Norte» is the novel by Elena Quiroga published by Bibliotex in paperback (255 pages, in Spanish).
Set in rural Galicia, the novel focuses on Marcela, a girl scorned for being born out of wedlock, and on Álvaro, an enlightened aristocrat who takes her in and ends up marrying her. The emotional distance between them inverts the expected hierarchies of that traditional world and sets up an unexpected twist in the plot.
2001 edition from Bibliotex with a prologue by Lourdes Ortiz and 255 pages. The work was originally published in 1951 and won the Premio Nadal.
For readers of classic Spanish fiction, with a female protagonist in a rural Galician setting.
