«Vilde svaner tre døtre af Kina» is the historical and biographical essay by Jung Chang, published in 2001 by Rosinante in paperback.
The work interweaves the lives of three women from Jung Chang’s family: her grandmother, concubine of a general in feudal China; her mother, a communist activist during the Japanese occupation; and the author herself, raised under Mao’s regime and marked by the Cultural Revolution. In this way it reconstructs a century of political and social change in China.
It is the first installment of the series «China Duology». The English original, «Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China», was published in 1991. Winner of the NCR Book Award and the British Book Award.
For readers of contemporary history and biographies, especially those interested in 20th-century China.

Jung Chang is a Chinese-born British author. She is best known for her family autobiography Wild Swans, which has sold over 10 million copies worldwide but is banned in the People's Republic of China. Her 832-page biography of Mao Zedong, Mao: The Unknown Story, written with her husband, the Irish historian Jon Halliday, was published in June 2005. Reception of the work by academics has been largely negative, though the work has received acclaim in the popular press.
