In 1972, the plane carrying the Old Christians rugby team from Montevideo to Santiago, Chile, crashed in the Andes. Of the forty-five passengers, sixteen survived almost three months of hunger, cold, and pain. Without supplies, they resorted to the flesh of the deceased to stay alive, while their families never stopped searching for them.
The work is the Spanish translation of "Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors", originally published in 1974. The crashed plane was a Fairchild F-227 of the Uruguayan Air Force.
