«Volavérunt» is the historical novel by Antonio Larreta, published by Bibliotex in hardcover (189 pages, in Spanish).
In 1848, Manuel de Godoy, Prince of the Peace, recalls the strange circumstances surrounding the death, forty-six years earlier, of the Duchess of Alba, Cayetana de Silva. The narrative incorporates the testimony of Francisco de Goya, who was in love with her, and the posthumous letter of a high-ranking figure linked to the events, which sheds new light on the case.
Winner of the Premio Planeta in 1980, with a prologue by Cuca Canals. This 2001 edition belongs to the Biblioteca El Mundo collection of the 100 best novels in Spanish of the 20th century.
For readers of historical and suspense fiction set in Spain in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
