Invited to spend two months in a writers' residence in a French port, a thirty-year-old Argentine novelist embarks on the trip with his wife. What he imagines as an innocent European vacation will become the worst of nightmares. Barely installed in Saint-Nazaire, his body begins to play tricks on him: a strange cyst sprouts at the base of his neck and begins to grow at full speed, and the homeopathic cream he is prescribed turns out to have unexpected lysergic properties. His wife, tired of France, decides to continue her journey alone and takes refuge in London, while his French editor increases his uncertainty by behaving like a consummate impostor. These anxieties soon push him into a labyrinth of mirages and traps in whose center the elements, delirium and crime await him.
'Wasabi' is a hilarious initiation novel disguised as a descent into hell: the hallucinated chronicle of how a writer creates an atrocious world to access the truth of love and literature.

Alan Pauls is an Argentine writer, literary critic and screenwriter.
