«Wenn du geredet hättest, Desdemona» is a book of imaginary speeches by Christine Brückner, published by Ullstein in paperback (168 pages, in German).
The author imagines what women silenced by history, literature and myth might have said, such as Desdemona, Clytemnestra, Christiane von Goethe or Effi Briest. Brückner champions women's moral strength and capacity for self-expression, and reflects on injustice, oppression and the power of giving voice to those who never had one.
The subtitle is «Ungehaltene Reden ungehaltener Frauen» and the volume includes drawings by Horst Janssen.
Work for readers interested in German literature, the feminist perspective and historical monologues.
Christine Brückner was a German writer.
