«West-östlicher Witzdiwan» is a collection of 555 political jokes by Kurt Hirche, published by Econ-Verlag in paperback (205 pages, in German).
The volume brings together 555 political jokes satirizing twentieth-century world politics, especially public life in Eastern Europe between 1945 and 1989. With irony, it turns the Cold War confrontation and the uses of power into material for everyday criticism.
The first edition (1. Aufl.) appeared in 1977, with imprint in Düsseldorf and Vienna; the subtitle is «555 politische Witze».
Suitable for readers fond of political satire and twentieth-century European history who can read German.
