«Cisnes Selvagens» (original title: Wild Swans) is the historical biography by Jung Chang, published by Quetzal Editores in Portuguese (517 pages).
The work interweaves personal memory and historical portrait to narrate the lives of three women from the same family: Jung Chang herself, her mother, and her maternal grandmother. Their destinies, marked by love, tragedy, and renewal, traverse the turbulent China of the twentieth century, from palaces to prisons and to streets in protest.
It is the first installment of the China Duology series. Originally published in 1991, it won the NCR Book Award (1992) and the British Book Award (1993). Portuguese translation by Mário Dias Correia.
Recommended for those interested in contemporary Chinese history and in biographies with a family and female focus.

Jung Chang is a Chinese-born British author. She is best known for her family autobiography Wild Swans, which has sold over 10 million copies worldwide but is banned in the People's Republic of China. Her 832-page biography of Mao Zedong, Mao: The Unknown Story, written with her husband, the Irish historian Jon Halliday, was published in June 2005. Reception of the work by academics has been largely negative, though the work has received acclaim in the popular press.
