«Yo, Zenobia, reina de Palmira» is the historical novel by Bernard Simiot, published by Círculo de Lectores in 1997 in paperback (315 pages, in Spanish).
The novel recreates the life of Zenobia, queen of Palmyra in the third century, from the power she assumes after the death of her husband Odaenathus to the conquest of the city by the emperor Aurelian. Between history and fiction, Simiot portrays the cultural and commercial splendor of Palmyra and a ruler who defied Rome.
The French original «Moi, Zénobie, reine de Palmyre» (1978) received the Bourse Goncourt du récit historique; the 1997 Spanish edition belongs to the collection Momentos Estelares de la Historia.
For readers of historical fiction who enjoy the ancient world, the Roman Empire and fictionalized biographies of great women.
