Prior to that, he was Louisiana Surgeon General from 2024 to 2025. He served as the U.S. representative for Louisiana's 5th congressional district from 2015 to 2021 as a member of the Republican Party. Abraham ran for governor of Louisiana in 2019, but failed to advance to the runoff.
