Andrei Donatovich Sinyavsky was a Russian writer and Soviet dissident known as a defendant in the Sinyavsky–Daniel trial of 1965.
Andrei Sinyavsky published much of his work under the pseudonym Abram Tertz to evade Soviet censorship.
His life was defined by his role as a political dissident, which led to his imprisonment in the Soviet Union.
After his release, he emigrated to France, where he had a distinguished career as a professor at the Sorbonne University.
He was a prolific author with over 90 published works, ranging from literary criticism to science fiction.
His book Spokoĭnoĭ nochi is considered one of his most significant and representative works.
