Jacqueline de Romilly was a prominent French Hellenist and philologist who dedicated her life to the study of classical Greece.
Born in Chartres, her deep passion for Greek culture led her to also obtain Hellenic citizenship.
Throughout her prolific career, she wrote nearly 80 works focusing on the history and literature of ancient Greece.
Her book Précis de littérature grecque is considered one of her most fundamental works for understanding the Hellenic world.
She occasionally signed her writings under the pseudonym Jacqueline Rancey.
