João de Melo is a fundamental figure in contemporary Portuguese literature. His work is noted for its deep connection to the history and identity of the Azores. In addition to his writing, he has dedicated much of his life to university teaching. His novel O meu mundo não é deste reino is considered one of his most iconic works. Throughout his career, he has published a total of seventeen works exploring literary criticism and narrative.
