Lauran Bosworth Paine was an American writer of Western fiction.

Lauran Paine was a prolific American author who wrote over a thousand books throughout his career.

His deep connection to the Old West was born from his real-life experiences in rodeos, the livestock trade, and his work as a movie cowboy.

Because his publishers limited the number of books per author, Paine used dozens of pseudonyms, such as Troy Howard, to publish his extensive work.

Although world-renowned for his Western novels, he also explored science fiction, romance, and military history.

His most iconic work, Open Range, reflects the authenticity he gained by listening to the stories of the old-timers of the West.
