Nathanael West was born in New York in 1903 as Nathan Wallenstein Weinstein.
During his time in Paris between 1924 and 1931, he wrote his first work, The Dream Life of Balso Snell.
He served as an associate editor for the magazine Contact alongside the renowned poet William Carlos Williams.
His most iconic work, The Day of the Locust, reflects his experience working as a screenwriter in Hollywood.
His promising literary career was tragically cut short in 1940 following a car accident.
