Autumn 1936. David Carr, an unemployed young communist, leaves Liverpool to join the International Brigades on the Aragon front during the Spanish Civil War. There, he meets many volunteers from across Europe and the United States, including Blanca, an attractive Spanish anarchist. David and Blanca are committed to fighting for freedom, equality, and a society without class divisions. However, they soon discover that the enemy is not always just on the opposing side.
