«Clairvaux: Or, les murs · Beyond the Wall» brings together music by Thierry Machuel performed by François-René Duchâble, the Trio Pasquier, and Les Cris de Paris, conducted by Geoffroy Jourdain, in an Aeon edition with two CDs and a DVD.
The project grew out of the composer's encounter with inmates at Clairvaux prison, whose poems are set to music. It includes the a cappella chamber choir cycles «Paroles contre l’oubli» and «Nocturnes de Clairvaux», alongside instrumental pieces. Julien Sallé's documentary follows the creative process, the inmates' testimonies, and their encounter with the music composed to their words.
Released in 2010, this edition comes in a digipak with catalog number AECD1092. The DVD contains a documentary lasting approximately one hour.
For listeners of contemporary classical and choral music interested in projects that connect artistic creation with the human experience of imprisonment.
