«Classic Tenors» is the compilation by Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young, released in 1989 by Sony, on CD.
It brings together tenor saxophonists Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young in a selection of classic jazz tracks. Against Hawkins' robust and vibrant sound, Young's style comes across as more relaxed and melodic, a contrast that reflects the transition from swing to the language of bebop in the recordings of both soloists.
CD edition of a single disc in The Nice Price series, with an illustrated cover showing both saxophonists playing.
Aimed at fans of classic jazz and recordings by tenor saxophonists of swing and bebop.
