Oratorio by Joseph Haydn setting to music the biblical account of the creation of the world according to Genesis, with vocal soloists, choir and orchestra. The title alludes to that creative process: the appearance of light, the separation of the elements and the formation of life on Earth.
Version conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt leading the Wiener Symphoniker, with Edita Gruberova, Josef Protschka and Robert Holl and the Arnold-Schönberg-Chor. Two-CD edition published by Teldec.
