«Gathering Call» is the jazz album by Matt Wilson Quartet + John Medeski, released in 2014 on Palmetto Records, on CD.
The quartet led by drummer Matt Wilson joins John Medeski for acoustic-based jazz with original pieces and unusual covers. The atmospheric 'Dancing Waters', the lyrical 'Hope (for the Cause)' and a recreation of Beyoncé's 'If I Were a Boy' are featured.
Completing the quartet are Jeff Lederer (saxophones and clarinet), Kirk Knuffke (cornet) and Chris Lightcap (double bass).
An album suitable for jazz listeners who value a varied repertoire between original creations and revisited standards.
