«Gesualdo: Sabbato Sancto (Responsoria)» is the choral music album by Carlo Gesualdo, released in 2005 by the label Harmonia Mundi France on CD.
It brings together the responsories Carlo Gesualdo composed for the Holy Saturday liturgy, pieces of late Renaissance polyphony marked by intense chromaticism. The recording, by the Ensemble Vocal Européen conducted by Philippe Herreweghe, combines these works with motets and the Requiem by Sandro Gorli.
Single CD, released in France in the Musique d'abord series (HMA 1951320). Vocal work with liturgical texts in Latin.
Recommended for fans of Renaissance polyphony and early Baroque sacred vocal repertoire.
