«Israelis Brünnlein» is the album by Johann Hermann Schein, released in 1996 by Harmonia Mundi on CD.
Subtitled «Les Fontaines d'Israël», the disc brings together spiritual madrigals for five or six voices and basso continuo. Schein sets German music to Old Testament texts, drawing on the Italian madrigal, a synthesis that anticipates the German Baroque and places him among Bach's predecessors.
A single CD with 79 minutes and 12 seconds of music. The performance is by the Ensemble Vocal Européen conducted by Philippe Herreweghe.
For fans of Baroque music, Philippe Herreweghe's performances, and German sacred repertoire before Bach.
