«Heroes Symphony / The Light» is the album by Philip Glass with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop, released in 2007 by Naxos on CD.
The CD brings together two orchestral works by Philip Glass. Heroes Symphony reinterprets the album «Heroes» by David Bowie and Brian Eno; among its movements are «Heroes», «Abdulmajid» and «Sense of Doubt». The Light is inspired by the Michelson-Morley experiment and contrasts an expressive introduction with an energetic main movement.
Recording made at the Concert Hall of Lighthouse (Poole) in May 2006; total duration, 70:09. Part of Naxos's American Classics series. Includes The Light (1987) and Heroes Symphony (1996).
For listeners of contemporary classical music and admirers of Philip Glass interested in his symphonies inspired by the pop of Bowie and Eno.
