«Mahler: Symphony No. 8» is the album by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra with Rafael Kubelik, released on CD by Deutsche Grammophon in 1986.
The work consists of two parts: the Latin hymn «Veni creator spiritus» and the final scene of Goethe's «Faust». It requires an enormous ensemble: eight soloists, two mixed choirs, children's choir and large orchestra, hence the nickname «Symphony of a Thousand».
Eight vocal soloists: Martina Arroyo, Erna Spoorenberg, Edith Mathis, Julia Hamari, Norma Procter, Donald Grobe, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Franz Crass. Duration: 74 min 55 s.
For fans of Mahler and large-scale choral symphonies of the romantic era.
