«Mendelssohn Symphonies 3 & 4» is the album by Felix Mendelssohn with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and Kurt Masur, released in 1988 by Teldec, on CD.
The album brings together two symphonies by Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 3 in A minor, 'Scottish', with its melancholic atmospheres, and Symphony No. 4 in A major, 'Italian', more luminous and rhythmic. The Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, conducted by Kurt Masur, performs both works with a classical and restrained approach, highlighting the contrasts between the Scottish mist and Italian vivacity.
The CD edition carries catalogue number 843676 and corresponds to a digital stereo recording by Teldec.
For admirers of Romantic symphonic music and of Kurt Masur's versions with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.
