«Symphonies No. 3 'Scottish' & No. 4 'Italian'» is the album by Mendelssohn with Kurt Masur and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, released on CD in 2003.
The CD brings together two symphonies by Felix Mendelssohn: No. 3 in A minor, called the «Scottish», and No. 4 in A major, the «Italian». The former has a slow introduction and an evocative atmosphere; the latter stands out for its vitality and its saltarello finale. The Gewandhausorchester Leipzig offers a sober performance with brisk tempos.
The recording is digital (DDD), lasts 67 minutes and is issued on a single CD; the disc contains eight tracks, four for each symphony.
Classical music enthusiasts, especially those interested in Romantic symphonies and Kurt Masur's performances with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.
