«Metal Rat» is the jazz album by the trio of Russ Lossing, Mat Maneri and Mark Dresser, released in 2006 on the Clean Feed label on CD.
The piano, viola and double bass trio moves between free improvisation and original compositions by Russ Lossing, Mat Maneri and Mark Dresser in various combinations. Its ten tracks abound in dry textures, unusual harmonies and extended developments, with chamber moments as concentrated as «Ch'ien», «Fire Monkey» or the title piece.
The album was originally released in Portugal as a CD with catalogue number CF064CD and falls within free improvisation.
For listeners of contemporary jazz and free improvisation who value unusual line-ups and trio dialogue.
