«Obrigado Brazil» is the CD album by cellist Yo-Yo Ma, released in 2003 by Sony Classical.
The album celebrates Brazilian music from the cello: Yo-Yo Ma performs melodies by composers such as Antonio Carlos Jobim and Heitor Villa-Lobos, accompanied by Brazilian artists. Recorded live at Carnegie Hall in New York, it blends classical repertoire with the country's popular rhythms and songs, in a project that brought bossa nova and other Brazilian genres to classical music audiences.
The album was released on July 29, 2003 as a single-disc audio CD, with 72 minutes of playing time, on the Sony Classical label. It corresponds to the recording of the concert «Obrigado Brazil [Live Concert]».
A disc for those who enjoy classical music and are curious about the Brazilian repertoire, or want a live recording with echoes of bossa nova and popular Brazilian music.
