«Pagliacci» is the recording of the opera by Ruggiero Leoncavallo, released on CD in 2004 by Naxos Deutschland GmbH within the Naxos Historical series.
Pagliacci is an Italian verismo opera that blends the farce of a troupe of comedians with the jealousy and drama of its protagonists. The contrast between what happens on stage and the characters' real pain sustains an intense and emotive score, one of the most popular in the operatic repertoire.
1953 recording conducted by Renato Cellini with Jussi Björling, Victoria de los Ángeles, Leonard Warren and Robert Merrill and the RCA Victor Orchestra. Sung in Italian; Naxos Historical 8.110258.
For opera enthusiasts and collectors of historical recordings of the classic operatic repertoire.
