Recorded in July and August 1958 in New York, 'Porgy And Bess' took as its basis the famous Gershwin musical, and saw arranger Gil Evans taking a modal approach to arrangement, turning away from the complex chord changes of bebop. The result was one of Miles's best-selling albums, and arguably the best of Davis and Evans' joint projects alongside 'Sketches Of Spain'.
