«The Power and the Glory» is the Classic Gold series compilation with organ works by Bach, Liszt, Franck, Gigout and Widor, on CD (Excelsior, 1995).
The disc combines Baroque and Romantic: it includes Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor BWV 565, Widor's Toccata from Symphony No. 5 and Franck's Pièce héroïque, plus Liszt and Gigout. These are imposing organ pieces, between severe counterpoint and virtuosity.
Performers are Xavier Darasse, René Saorgin, János Sebestyén and Walter Kraft. Remastered CD with eight works and 69 minutes' duration.
For organ and classical music enthusiasts wanting an anthology of toccatas and fugues.
