The album brings together ten acoustic protest songs. The opening track, «The Times They Are a-Changin'», is one of Bob Dylan's most important protest songs; also notable are «With God on Our Side» and «Ballad of Hollis Brown». The lyrics address racism, poverty and social change, although Dylan denied it was a protest album.
