A concept album reflecting the social and political unrest in the United States in the early seventies: the Vietnam War, poverty, racial injustice and environmental decay. Its sound blends soul, funk and jazz touches, with such representative tracks as «What's Going On», «Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)» and «Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)».
Remastered CD edition, released in 1998 by Motown as part of a series of label reissues.
Recommended for those seeking a soul classic with social awareness and production that made its mark.
