«A la mierda la bicicleta» is the young adult novel by Gonzalo Moure Trenor, published by Alfaguara in paperback (133 pages, in Spanish).
Javier is a fourteen-year-old boy who lives in the countryside and enjoys his surroundings: he studies, bands birds on weekends and helps his father with the horses. One day he is chosen to be the new «friend of the animals» on a television show, but no one expects him to have his own ideas capable of endangering the adults' plans. The novel raises an ethical dilemma: being true to oneself in the face of promises of material gain.
Novel awarded the Jaén Prize for Young Adult Fiction in 1993.
Aimed at young readers from around fourteen years old and at those seeking a story about integrity, nature and the media.
