«Abans» is the fiction novel by Vassilis Alexakis, published by Edicions La Campana in paperback (200 pages, in Catalan).
A group of people remains locked underground, unable to see, and can only tell day from night by the rumble of the metro. They have lost their sense of time; they dig a corridor, avoid contact with one another, and live in fear of the guardian. Even so, they insist on celebrating the birthday of Olivier, an eleven-year-old boy.
It belongs to the «Tocs» collection from Edicions La Campana, number 7. Catalan translation by Helena Cots; original French «Avant» (1992).
Intended for readers who value enigmatic atmospheres and questions about the perception of time and reality.
Vassilis Alexakis was a Greek-French writer and self-translator of numerous novels in Greek, his mother tongue, and French.
